Cova de l'Ensorrament

Petita cova de 12 m. de recorregut a la Canal de Tanca (Sant Llorenç del Munt)

Sant Llorenç Savall • Vallès Occidental12m0

Small cave with a 12 m passage in the Canal de Tanca, in Sant Llorenç del Munt, discovered in May 1961 and resurveyed in January 2000.

Characteristics

Location

On the left slope of the head of the canal de Tanca. Situated at the upper part of the canal de la Ravella, we will head towards the Agulles de Tanca following a network of paths. We will leave behind the lush main head of the canal de Tanca, until we reach a rocky area crossed by a path that once again goes into the canal de Tanca. We will leave the rocky area on our right, finding a not very worn channel. Following the walls of the cliff, on our left, we will soon find the steep and overgrown access to the cova de la Cabrafiga. Twenty metres further to the right is the access to the cova de l'Ensorrament, much cleaner.

To get a good idea of the route, it is interesting to position oneself near the Agulles de Tanca in order to see the two openings that open in the cliff of the canal de Tanca.

Description

Morphology

This cavity, about ten metres long, is located higher up than its companion, and the upper part of its mouth crosses a package of reddish conglomerate.

Contrary to the cova de la Cabrafiga, the cova de l'Ensorrament soon goes from its initial narrowness to a width of 2 metres by a height of more than 5 metres. The cave follows a S-N joint, finding at the bottom an impassable gallery.

Speleothems

Two vaults in the ceiling and some stalagmitic flows on the right wall stand out. Anemolites are also present in some sections.

Other details

The entrance blocks that give the cave its name form part of the setting where the dismantling of the mountain is represented. This phenomenon is what in geology is known as cliff retreat and in the case of the cova de l'Ensorrament it means the loss of its function as a water collector and also a progressive reduction of its passage. What today are mountains, tomorrow will be valleys.

History

Discovered and explored in May 1961 by members of the GES – CMB (O. Andrés and J.Mª Torras) who include them (without survey) in the speleological catalogue of Sant Llorenç de Munt (1974).

In January 2000 it is rediscovered and surveyed by members of the SIS of the CE Terrassa.
