Castellet i la Gornal • Alt Penedès19m5m

A 19 m-long rock shelter in Castellet i la Gornal, in Alt Penedès.

Characteristics

Location

Leave the car at km 12.2 on the road from Castellet to Vilanova i la Geltrú (BV-2115), from where a track (closed to vehicles) starts and must be followed for about 250 metres until reaching a vineyard. Here, continue to the right for about 200 metres more until the track ends at the entrance to a vineyard and crosses the GR.92. We will follow the path on the right, which runs parallel to the fondo d'en Perot. After 300 metres we will already see the cave on the left, at the base of a cliff. 50 metres further on we will see a path on the left that leads directly to the cave.

Description

Morphology

It is a rock shelter 17.5 metres wide, 5 metres deep and 4.5 metres high at its maximum. The centre of the rock shelter is occupied by a cone of sand resulting from the degradation of the rock. In the E part there are some large blocks, and in the W part a low, wide passage allows us to continue for about 5 m.

Progression

In front of the cone there are two narrow crevices through which we can climb with difficulty for about 5 m.

History

Known since time immemorial.
