Description

Morphology

Balma 20 metres wide and 5 metres deep on average; on the SW side there is a passage that reaches 8 metres.

History

Balma used in ancient times to build around the year 1000 the hermitage of Sant Joan Baptista, where some abbots of Montserrat retired in the last years of their lives.

In 1811 it was destroyed by the French army, as was the hermitage of Sant Onofre, which was right next to it and joined to that of Sant Joan by a footbridge.
