Avenc dels Rocs de l'esteve

Avenc de 31 metres de fondària al NO dels Prats de Carreu,(Coll de Nargó).

Coll de Nargó • Alt Urgell45m31m

A 31-metre-deep pit in the NW of the Prats de Carreu (Coll de Nargó), with three entrance mouths, explored in 1968 and rediscovered in 1993.

Characteristics

Location

The pit is located in the NW of the Prats de Carreu, in the municipality of Coll de Nargó. The easiest access is from Bóixols via the Obaga Negra (from here the Rocs de l'Esteve can already be seen opposite; the ICGC erroneously places them in the Plan de Calama). We will continue towards the coll de Llívia, where we will continue along the track in the direction of Hortoneda; at approximately two kilometres and four hundred metres after having passed the Coll de Llívia the track makes a 180-degree bend to the left, in a flat area with quite a few trees. From here we will cross the plain in an E direction, and we will head to the right to look for the cliff; about 50 metres from the plain and a few metres from the cliff we will pass by the mouth of the Forat dels Coms (-43 m), we will continue climbing up to the head of the barranc dels Coms, at approximately some 1740 m.a.s.l. From here we will continue gliding in an E direction, until reaching the upper part of the Rocs de l'Esteve, where a few metres from the cliff we will find the various mouths of the cavity.

Description

Morphology

The pit has three entrance mouths that join within a few metres; the most comfortable entrance is the one closest to the cliff. This, by means of two small climbable downclimbs, places us at the -8 metre level. On the NE part of this meander-shaped level, a new shaft about 15 metres deep opens, but divided by a large wedged block and a little further down by a small ledge. At the base in a S direction, a descending level begins with two 90-degree turns and reaches the maximum depth of the pit. From the base of the shaft and initially in a NW direction, the gallery continues through a narrow passage, then continues in a NE direction, in a winding route; at the end it is necessary to climb about 3 metres to access an upper gallery that follows the same pattern, this ends in an area where we find many wedged blocks and an air current. It is more than likely that this point is a contact zone with the nearby avenc de la Ginebra, which is located externally at 46 metres of distance, while the interior route of the avenc Rocs de l'Esteve is 20 metres in the direction of the avenc de la Ginebra, and this one has a route of 25 metres in the direction of the one of the Rocs de l'Esteve.

History

The first news we have of the exploration of the cavity was carried out in 1968 by members of the SAS of the Centre Gimnàstic Barcelonès. In 1993 it is located again by the ERE of the CEC, who, thinking that it is a new cavity, rename it with the name of avenc dels Insolvents (currently, 2015 the graffiti is still preserved).
