Avenc del Torrent Negre

Avenc del Torrent Negre

Avenc de 31 metres de fondària al riu Rialb (Coll de Nargó).

Coll de Nargó • Alt Urgell50m31m

A 31-metre-deep pit at the Rialb river (Coll de Nargó), with an entrance 2 metres high and 1.5 wide, explored since 2004 and the object of new explorations in 2021 and 2022.

Characteristics

Location

Leaving Coll de Nargó along the L-511 road, shortly before reaching the coll de Bóixols there is a turn-off to the left that leads to Gavarra and which must be followed for a little more than 2 km, where a track comes off to the right heading towards the coll de Corrobiu. From here it continues in a S direction and a little more than 1 km from the coll another track comes off, in very poor condition and liable at some point to be closed. It must be followed to a bend where a ridge of the slope begins that descends steeply towards the Rialb and parallel to the torrent Negre, and quite far down is the pit.

Description

Morphology

The entrance, about 2 metres high and 1.5 wide, begins with a gallery 4 metres long that leads us to a pou rodó almost 30 metres deep. About 4 metres above the base of the shaft, we find a passage that starts on a slope and continues flat for a few more metres, reaching at this point the -31 metres of depth.

During the 2022 explorations it has been established that at the end of the head of the entrance shaft one reaches a shaft that is no more than the upper part of the entrance one separated by a rock bridge in the first metres. In the main shaft, 11 metres from the base and on the other side of the side of the shaft by which one descends, there is a window that gives access to a narrow gallery that leads to a shaft so narrow that it becomes impracticable.

History

The first reference we have of this cavity is provided by the GE LLeida, who made the first exploration in 2004. On 19-12-2021, Josep Guarro, Joan C. Juderias and Ainhoa Bernal visited the cavity with the intention of checking an unknown point at the other end of the head of the shaft that was noted on the survey by the colleagues from Lleida, beginning by installing a handline. In early 2022 they returned a few more times with Iván and Joaquín Contreras, Carles Pons and Dani Ferrer, resolving the unknown points and exploring some passages of little importance or very narrow. In November 2022 members of the Espeleodijous visited the cavity, carried out a new survey and removed the equipment.
