A 34-metre-long cave on the Rialb river (Coll de Nargó).

Characteristics

Location

Just past kilometre 12 of the L-511 road between Isona and Coll de Nargó, at the coll de Faidella, we will take the track towards the village of La Rua; after following it for one kilometre, we must take the track on the left where a manoeuvre will be necessary as it is a very tight bend. After another 2.5 kilometres and with a steep gradient, we will reach can Miquel de la Borda, where the vehicle must be left so as not to obstruct. We set off on foot from the house following the track downhill until reaching the Rialb river, which we will cross by a wooden bridge; this will take us about 7 minutes of walking. We leave the track and on the left bank of the river a path sets off, at first well marked, and further on it gradually disappears until reaching a fairly large meadow which we will descend to its lower end in the direction of the river; this section takes 6'. We continue along the faintly traced path until reaching the confluence with the ravine that comes down on the left, another 6'. We cross this last ravine and continue climbing until we find some terraces; immediately we must try to reach a small path that at times can barely be imagined, until crossing the next ravine; on this section we will spend 15'. We continue walking more or less flat above the river until reaching the third ravine; we will have to descend to cross it; this section will take us 20' (before making the descent, on the other side of the ravine a track can be seen; this is a forest track that comes off the road at Gabarra, at the collada del Calçó where the cabana del Pegater is, and with many branches). After crossing the third ravine we will climb a little where a cliff about 10 metres high by about 50 metres long can be seen. After having passed this cliff along its lower part and heading upwards, the cave is found; we will do this last section in 6', totalling 1 hour of walking.

Description

Morphology

The cavity begins with a width of 4 x 1.5 metres in height, and continues horizontally until after 12 metres it becomes wider and taller. In the widest part there is a chimney that rises a couple of metres and is collapsed. At the back of the cavity there is also another chimney that rises about 5 metres without leading anywhere.

History

The first reference we have of this cavity is provided by the GELL, who explored it in 2004. At the entrance of the cave there is what looks like a stone wall; it is said to have been used as a hiding place during the Spanish Civil War.
