Avenc del Flabiol

Avenc del Flabiol

Petit avenc de 5 m de fondària a la vall d'Ingla (Cerdanya)

Bellver de Cerdanya • Cerdanya7m5m

Small 5 m deep pit in the Ingla valley (Cerdanya), with a circular entrance about 50 cm wide, a 3 m downclimbable pothole and a small chamber with lithogenic formations.

Characteristics

Location

Leaving the village of Talló (a hamlet of Bellver) we take the paved track that leads to the Font d'Ingla recreational area and the Cortals refuge. A few metres further on from the Romanesque chapel of Sant Serni de Coborriu the track becomes a dirt road suitable for cars.

Once we pass the recreational area (5.7 km from Talló), on reaching a monument that supports a large stone, the track forks: the left one goes to the Cortals Refuge, we take the right one.

We pass the Can Serra farmhouse and further on, at a sharp right-hand bend, a track closed to traffic comes out on the left (7.3 km from Talló).

We leave the vehicles and continue on foot along the track barred to cars. After approximately 30 minutes a path comes out on the right (ETRS89 coordinates X: 399369 , Y: 4684249, Z: 1534 m.a.s.l.) that climbs and traverses until the path begins to descend slightly (15 min).

Among the forest a limestone outcrop can be seen. We climb off-trail up to the foot of the cliff (10 min) where we find the supposed cova d'en Pere Ferrer and 10 m above it, the avenc del Flabiol

Description

Morphology

A circular entrance about 50cm in diameter leads to a 3m downclimbable pothole that leads to a small chamber with a profusion of lithogenic formations of great beauty.

We find several broken stalactites, some welded to the floor and part of the fallen ceiling, with the formations it had occupying the floor of the room.

Speleothems

A circular entrance about 50cm in diameter leads to a 3m downclimbable pothole that leads to a small chamber with a profusion of lithogenic formations of great beauty.

We find several broken stalactites, some welded to the floor and part of the fallen ceiling, with the formations it had occupying the floor of the room.

Progression

A small dig was made and it seems it could continue in depth.

Other details

All this partial collapse of the ceiling could be due to a seismic movement. Cerdanya has suffered several (documented) phenomena that we have observed in different cavities of the region.

History

In 2018, Ferran Ballesteros and Josep Mª Munill, great connoisseurs of the region, located two pits that could be of speleological interest, they contacted members of the Espeleodijous and in July 2023 the exploration and survey of the cavities was completed.
