Avenc del Coll de Tres Creus

Petit avenc de 6 m. de fondària a la Serra de l'Obac

Mura • Bages15m6m

Small 6 m deep pit in the Serra de l'Obac, near the Coll de Tres Creus, with a 5 m entrance shaft and a final crawl.

Characteristics

Location

From the Alzina del Sal·lari (km. 11 of the road from Terrassa to Talamanca) you must go up the street that leads towards Castellsapera. Once you have reached the Coll de Tres Creus, you must take a small path on the right that follows the ridge. About 40 metres further on, on the right and on a rock ledge among holm oaks, is the mouth of the pit. Very approximate coordinates. Very close by there is a small hole, almost without importance, which is called Avenc II del Coll de Tres Creus and which, for the moment, we have decided not to catalogue.

Description

Morphology

The elongated mouth allows you to descend down a 5 metre shaft by climbing down its smooth walls. At its bottom, and in a S direction, a very uncomfortable crawl to enter leads to a final small sloping chamber, where two people can barely fit and where the point of maximum depth is reached (- 6 m.). Structured on a N69E-S69O joint. In the entrance shaft some clear forms of erosion can be observed, although the cavity remains subject to a process of sedimentation that almost obstructs the entrance shaft.

History

Thinking that that small hole of little more than 2 metres deep and located near the Coll de Tres Creus could be the so-called Avenc de Tres Creus in the Guia monogràfica de Sant Llorenç (CET, 1935) and of which there was no news, meant that, at the beginning of 1984, first members of the SIS and then of the GES Terrassa, began to clear the sediments that blocked the small entrance shaft, until managing to reach the final point. Establishing however, that in no way could it be the aforementioned Avenc de Tres Creus and that very possibly this is the one that many years later was named Avenc del Picarol ??.
