Febró, La • Baix Camp123m38m

A 38-metre-deep pit in the barranc de la cova del Corral, la Febró, with two entrances and a main fissure of 22 metres.

Characteristics

Location

Access begins from the cemetery of la Febró where one can park, and follow the T-704 road towards la Febró for 115 metres; at this point on the left of the road on the ground there is a cement manhole cover and a signpost for the cova de la Vila, this is where the path that climbs the barranc de la Cova del Corral begins. After a route of about 800 metres, on the left slope and near the upper cliff there is a characteristic rock in the shape of a pillar, known as el Castellot; one must climb the slope until reaching it. The lower entrance of the cavity is found at its base on the E side, while the upper entrance is located on the part above the rock on the W side.

Description

Morphology

The cavity has two entrances, the upper one extremely narrow through which it is not advisable to enter, while through the lower entrance one accesses a collapsed fissure of 4 metres of drop that leads to a descending level that leads to the head of the main fissure. The pit from the head is 22 metres and leads to the level of -34.5 metres. Once at the base, it can be traversed in both directions along about seventy metres, in an E direction climbing up to the level of -30m, while in a W direction the gallery descends until reaching the maximum depth of -38.15 metres.

Progression

At the start we find an annoying block that is better not to touch too much; a deviation must be installed so that the rope does not touch it. At 8 metres one lands on a small descending ledge that deviates a couple of metres towards the East, continuing down the vertical to the bottom. For the exploration it was equipped with “multimonti” bolts which were removed upon finishing the exploration, therefore in the cavity there is no installation.

History

Unpublished cavity, it was located by Montse Roca and Juli Serrano (SIE-CEA) in early December 2021; at the end of the same month Juli Serrano and Francesc Rubinat (ERE-CEC) returned to finish the exploration and survey of the cavity.
