A 16-metre-deep pit in the barranc de la cova del Corral, La Febró. Previously undocumented cavity located on 26-09-2019 by the SIE-CEA and the ERE-CEC; explored and catalogued on 21-11-2019.

Characteristics

Location

Access begins from the cemetery of la Febró, where one can park, and follows the T-704 road towards la Febró for 115 metres; at this point, on the left of the road on the ground, there is a cement manhole cover and a signpost for the cova de la Vila, where the path that climbs the barranc de la Cova del Corral begins. After a distance of six hundred and eighteen metres from the cemetery, we find on the left of the path a turn-off marked with signposts pointing to the cova d'en Peixet and the cova de la Vila; we will ignore this path and continue straight for a little more than a hundred metres until we find a tree on the right of the path with a yellow line painted on its trunk. At this point one must climb the slope on the left and, without a path, about 25 metres of height, where we will find the entrance of the cavity at the foot of a small cliff.

Description

Morphology

An entrance of 1.66X0.47 metres gives access to a 5.57-metre pit. At the base we find a descending ramp at the end of which the gallery turns left and continues almost flat until the end. The gallery itself is a large fissure that along most of its course is around 1 metre wide; at the final part it narrows until it becomes impenetrable, partly due to the flowstone on the walls, although quite decalcified. The height of the fissure varies along the entire course; at some points the ceiling cannot be seen. The total drop is -16.5 metres and the course is 80 metres.

Speleothems

Flowstone on the walls, although quite decalcified.

History

Previously undocumented cavity; the entrance was located on 26-09-2019 by members of the SIE-CEA and the ERE-CEC while searching for the cova de la Vila. It is not until 21-11-2019 that they return to explore it and carry out cataloguing work.
