Avenc de Roca Negra

Avenc de Roca Negra

Petit avenc de 7,5 m de fondària a les parets de Can Roca (Castelldefels)

Castelldefels • Baix Llobregat21m7m

Small pit 7.5 m deep in the walls of Can Roca (Castelldefels), documented and surveyed in 2013.

Characteristics

Location

At the end of Carrer Castanyer in Castelldefels we find the Can Roca leisure area with a large car park. We will cross the whole leisure area and at the end on the right we find the stairs that go up to Cal Ganxo; at the end of the stairs we will follow the track to the left, where we will soon find an information sign for the climbing area. At this point we will turn right towards a nearby electricity pylon; from the electricity pylon a not very worn path leads to the walls of Can Roca. We soon enter an area of pine reforestation; among these and to the left of the path there is a fairly large dead pine of which only the trunk remains but which is still standing. This is the point where we must leave the path and on the right climb the slope about 15 metres where we will find the entrance; currently (2022) it is covered with a wooden board and a few rotten trunks to prevent any unwary person from falling in. The route from the Can Roca leisure area is about 900 metres, a little more than ten minutes.

Description

Morphology

A circular entrance 1 m in diameter leads us to a room with a sloping ceiling (parallel to the slope of the outside mountain). The room, with a low ceiling, makes us always crawl on our side and, to the NE, we find a crawlway that ends after 4 metres further on. Just on reaching the base of the entrance ramp shaft, 3 m, we find a small entrance that leads us to a narrow passage that reaches a low and narrow corridor 3.5 m long, which ends in a small “room” that is the lowest point of the cavity. The whole cavity is full of rocks and blocks from the ceiling.

Speleothems

On the ceiling there are some incipient formations.

History

It was probably known for some time but had remained unpublished until 2013, when it was documented and surveyed by members of GE Badalona, SES-GE Ribes and SEPS – FE Barcelona.
