Avenc d'en Viladrich

Avenc de 38 metres de fondària a la Baronia de Rialb.

Baronia de Rialb, La • Noguera62m38m

A 38-metre-deep pit in the Baronia de Rialb, located by the GE Pedraforca on 14 February 1971.

Characteristics

Location

At Peramola, we take a track that leaves from the NW of the village and climbs until it passes the cliff line, where we take a turn to the left to head towards Sant Martí de Montlleví; on the SW side the track continues in the direction of the farmhouse (what remains) of l'Arçosa. From here one must follow the path in a southerly direction until reaching the upper plateaus of the serra de l'Arçosa, where we will find a faint path that climbs up from Pallerols; one must follow it towards the W until it ends, and a hundred metres further on, in the middle of the wood, the cavity is found.

Because throughout the whole l'Arçosa area there is a metal fence, which we assume is for hunting activities, the most suitable access, although with a longer walk, would be from Pallerols.

Approximate coordinates without much reliability.

Description

Morphology

The entrance opens onto a slope that places us at the head of a pit of -14 metres; its base, situated at -18 metres, is very irregular and can be traversed for 12 metres, where a narrow passage places us in a pit of 9 metres; the cavity continues amid a chaos of blocks, on one side one can descend about 3 metres, while on the other, between blocks, one reaches -32 metres; a new narrow passage followed by a pit of 6 metres places us at the bottom of the cavity at -38 metres of depth.

History

The cavity was located by the GE Pedraforca on 14 February 1971, when accompanied by Mr Viladrich of Peramola he showed them the place where the pit was found, hence they gave his name to the cavity. Later, on 7 March of the same year, another GEP team explored the cavity down to -20 metres, where they began a dig that they managed to get past during Holy Week of the same year down to -30 metres. A new GEP team returned on 26 November 1972 and finished the exploration.
