Characteristics

Location

From the village of Colldejou we leave along carrer del Forn following the almost entirely asphalted track that heads to coll del Guix. We leave the vehicle at the coll itself and follow the GR that climbs to the Mola de Colldejou and, after covering 370 metres, we leave the GR and follow the path on the right that climbs to the Mola de Colldejou via the Portell del Móra. At 475 metres of route from the Coll del Guix, we leave the path (ETRS89, 320947-4552333) and continue in an E direction for 340 metres along a faint trail with some cairns, taking care not to lose height. We reach the upper lip of the cavity, descend down a gully a few metres further on to a terrace about 7 metres below, and go back a few metres along this terrace where we find the lower lip that gives access to the cavity.

Description

Morphology

It is a fissure 7 metres long and just over half a metre wide, accessed from the lower lip. The upper lip is 7 metres higher up.

From the lower lip a 7.5 metre pit drops us onto a platform about 4 metres long and from there, a 6 metre pit drops us onto a short ramp where we find a narrow passage with a 1.2 metre step followed by a steep ramp that places us at the lowest point of the cavity, 17.5 metres. At this point the continuation of the fissure can be seen still descending but the narrowness makes it impracticable. From this same point it is possible to climb about three metres and reach a small chamber about three metres long; at the end a one metre high step places us in a conduit 2 metres long and 0.5 metres high that eventually becomes impracticable.

History

Despite the absence of data, we believe the cavity was located and explored by members of the SIET de Tarragona during the second half of the past decade (2015-2017).

Based on the observation of a description published on Wikiloc, collaborators of Espeleoíndex on 2-12-2023 approached the site and documented the cavity.

The cavity is fully rigged, presumably by the first explorers; it is likely they intended to continue the exploration by forcing the narrow passages at the bottom of the cavity, but judging by the state of the material it seems no one has been there for some time.

It should be noted that 275 metres from the Coll del Guix and on the left of the path that climbs to the Mola de Colldejou there is a cavity that the same explorers cite as CM1 (ETRS89, 320881-4552113 and 656 msm); it is a fissure with three access openings but they do not connect, none of the three openings reaches 3 metres of depth.
