A 38-metre-long cave in Sant Joan de les Abadesses, with a 0.85 x 0.35 metre collapse entrance, currently covered by a sandstone slab.

Characteristics

Location

From the N-260 road from Ripoll to Sant Joan de les Abadesses, at kilometre 197.36 just before crossing the torrent de Ribamala, a track leaves from the left-hand side heading towards Coll de Jou. After travelling approximately 1.5 kilometres, we turn off onto a track on the right that crosses the torrent de Ribamala and heads towards Can Dosdies and Can Barraca. From this latter house, without losing or gaining height, one must continue in a SE direction to the nearby torrent, which comes down from the col of Can Boixerol. A small path leads to a small wood where the Tuta del Formatge and the Tuta de Can Barraca are found, very close to one another. At present the entrance is covered by a sandstone slab.

Description

Morphology

A collapse entrance of 0.85 x 0.35 metres in the form of a shaft gives access to a main joint of SE-NW direction, which we reach by a ramp that ends in a small step, which connects with a gallery opened along a bedding plane. The main joint continues, meeting on the left another joint that soon becomes closed, until its progressive narrowness prevents exploration.

Progression

A ramp ends in a small step, which connects with a gallery opened along a bedding plane. The main joint continues, meeting on the left another joint that soon becomes closed, until its progressive narrowness prevents exploration.

History

Following information received from an acquaintance of the GE Badalona, they get in contact with the inhabitants of Can Barraca, who accompany them to the cavity, carrying out the exploration on 16 March 1996.
