A small cave at the plunge pool of Malatosca, Sant Joan de les Abadesses, with an entrance of 1.13X1.41 metres in a travertine wall and a 9-metre passage.

Characteristics

Location

If we position ourselves at the hostel of the ruta del Ferro, in Sant Joan de les Abadesses, we will follow the GIV-5211 road for a few metres and then turn off to the right along the via verda (bike lane), until we reach a junction crossed by a cemented track. At this point, we must turn right along the path that descends to the plunge pool of Malatosca. The cave is located to the left of the waterfall, a couple of metres above the water level.

Description

Morphology

The entrance of 1.13X1.41 metres opens in a travertine wall and gives access to a small passage 9 metres long. There is some small falling of the ceiling, due to the low consistency of the schists that form the gallery.

Speleothems

On the left wall of the passage we find a flowstone.

Hydrology

At the base of the flowstone there is a good pool of water coming from the flowstone.

Other details

Although the gallery is very masked, it could be that the gallery had been partly excavated artificially, although we do not know for what purpose.

History

The only data we have reference to are those provided by Francesc J. Garcia i Ravella, who explored it on 4-7-2015.
