Description
Morphology
On the N lip of a large depression 12 m in diameter opens a wide shaft 15 m deep that reaches the upper part of a rather steep ramp that gives rise to a gallery 16 m long, arriving at a chamber some 12 m high and where the cavity ends at 23 m depth.
Back at the surface and at the bottom of the depression, there is a stepped ramp that surrounds much of the main shaft and at its west end opens a small 3 m shaft that leads to a gallery 8 m long, narrow and sloping, which ends in a window that gives onto an 8 m shaft and which is none other than the chimney glimpsed at the final point of the cavity.
History
Certainly known for a long time by the herders of the area, but we have no news that it had been recognised speleologically before.
Around the year 2002-2003, at the nearby farmhouse of Cal Magí, our colleague Francesc Rubinat was told about the Pou dels Grallons but the explanations were not very precise and he thought they were referring to the avenc de Roca Senyús. At this same time, colleagues from CE Lleida also knew of the existence of the cavity, but they thought it must be the Avenc B-3 de Plandellet and so they recorded it in the Boumort hiking guide (Cortès, M., 2005) and on the Editorial Piolet map, although with an erroneous location.
It is not until 8 September 2019 that Josep Guarro locates the cavity and three days later, on 11 September 2019, he returns with Joan Carles Juderías and they carry out the exploration and cataloguing work. Given the little data available, it must in all probability be the Pou dels Grallons.
On the ICGC map it appears georeferenced, but much further S than where it really is.
Some web pages also mention it, but confuse it with the Pou Graller or Avenc del Plan de Ribes, in the Serra de Carreu.
Bio
During the exploration the remains of a few jackdaw nests could be observed, very few, (gralló = jackdaw chick).
