les Foradades del Cabrit

Cova de 56 m. de recorregut amb diferents sortides a l'exterior (Sant Llorenç del Munt)

Matadepera • Vallès Occidental56m4m

A 56 m long cave with several exits to the outside, at the foot of the Cabrit hill, in Sant Llorenç del Munt. Discovered on 21 March 1987 by the SIS – CE Terrassa.

Characteristics

Location

At the foot of the Cabrit hill, with no path leading to it.

From the characteristic monolith of the Cova del Drac and through the hole that faces the Santa Agnès gully, that is, towards the E, we can observe on our left a cliff that at the end forms a separate hill, whose walls fall vertically towards the bottom of the valley. One must follow this cliff line to very close to the col that separates this hill called the Cabrit from the rocky cliff. We will go down through a clear forest of tall holm oaks while following the towering walls of the Cabrit and, when we are almost at the base of the hill, where on our right the gully by which we have descended is clearly marked, with a small cliff, we will observe on the wall of the hill a cave mouth very close to the outlet of the gully. The mouth is reached by a ledge covered with ivy that, with a safety rope, we will reach quickly.

It can also be reached from the E side of the mountain: Aparcament de les Arenes – Riera Seca – Cruïlla dels Quatre Camins del Dalmau – Canal de Santa Agnès – Turó de les Nou Cabres.

Description

Morphology

Access is via the S mouth, which has two openings: at the lower one you have to crawl, while the upper one is reached with a fairly easy scramble. We find ourselves before a 7 metre gallery through which one must advance crouched; immediately we can make out on the left a narrow 3 metre passage that opens into two small mouths hidden by the ivy. Also on the left and a little further on a small gallery emerges that is soon blocked by sediments. Following the main gallery, of a very rounded section, it zigzags until some forks are found.

From here three directions can be taken: the rightmost one we can observe opens to the outside after 4 metres; on the left side a small hole can be seen that later connects with one of the galleries of the fork. The middle gallery is formed by a 7 metre passage with slight windings and that comes out again to the outside, on a ledge where some holm oaks grow. On this same ledge we find a second mouth that has access and we will see further on.

If from the fork one follows to the left, a passage leads us to a 5 metre gallery where in the middle we find a significant collapse, which is passed without difficulties. At the end a second fork gives us two options: on the left we find a short gallery where one moves crouched and that, ascending, winding along, leads us to a fairly high passage, but after a few metres it ends very narrow; a small hole in the floor of this gallery connects with the second fork.

Towards the right side of the last fork, the gallery continues until it opens forming a small vestibule; on one side a mouth gives onto the holm oak ledge and, on the opposite, two small passages connect with the high passage. Further ahead, however, a low passage will take us to the end of the cavity, forming a broad terrace.

At the N end, the balcony is wider, coming close to the majestic Turó de les Nou Cabres; on the E side two smaller holes pour us onto the cliff.

Other details

The cavity develops along a very definite stratum of conglomerates; none of its galleries exceeds the level of this package of rock well set within the great rocky mass of the Cabrit hill.

The excavation of the cavity has been favoured by a network of joints of N-S direction crossed by others of E-O direction.

The great chasm of the main gallery seems to have been caused by the hand of man.

History

Discovered by chance on 21 March 1987 by members of the SIS – CE Terrassa, as a result of an error in the itinerary of an excursion to the Turó de les Nou Cabres. The following Sunday, 29 March, the complete exploration and the survey were carried out.
