Description

Morphology

The easternmost area of the cavity, the first reached from the path, is a rock shelter about 10 metres deep with a section of 5 x 2 metres, structured in a very clayey stratum.

Continuing westwards, one passes through a short 5-metre corridor with a section of 1 x 1 metres that leads to the vestibule of the main cavity, which has a passage of about 30 metres and an average section of 7 by 1 metres; the floor is occupied by a succession of stepped gours, branching in the final stretch along two generating joints. At 12 metres from the entrance we find ourselves before a laminar passage, on the right-hand side, which continues for some 30 metres more; the floor is covered by clayey sediments that eventually fill the conduit.

Back in the main vestibule, at the western end, a narrow conduit with an average section of 0.5 x 0.5 metres and a passage of 18 metres leads us to the other side of the crag.

Hydrology

The floor is occupied by a succession of stepped gours, normally full of water.

History

Known since time immemorial and mentioned in all the hiking catalogues and guides of the Sant Llorenç del Munt mountain.

Partly used to build the Santa Agnès hermitage, which is documented at least since 1341 and which was a place of prayer and retreat well into the 18th century and definitively abandoned during the Peninsular War (1808).
