Grallera de Baiarri

Grallera de Baiarri

Petita cavitat inèdita al sector NW del Boumort

Conca de Dalt • Pallars Jussà20m15m

Small undocumented cavity in the NW sector of Boumort, near the Forat de la Roqueta, with an elongated entrance and a filled circular chamber.

Characteristics

Location

Small undocumented cavity in the NW sector of Boumort.

From Hortoneda de la Conca, take the track that leads to the Coll de la Creu. From this point, follow the left-hand track where vehicle traffic is prohibited, so continue on foot along the track for about two kilometres to the Coll de Neda. From here, head diagonally to reach the ridge and follow it, parallel to a series of trenches and machine-gun nests (remains of the Pallars front of the Civil War). Shortly before the ridge begins to descend, head towards the left-hand slope following the GPS, and the cavity is soon found.

Relatively close to the Forat de la Roqueta, which is erroneously referenced on the ICC map as Forat de l'Embut.

Description

Morphology

Elongated entrance with access in the form of a descending ramp one metre wide and with a stony floor. Shortly after, one enters a circular chamber, also a ramp, where the cavity is filled.

At present no survey is available. The measurements are approximate.

History

Located by Josep Guarro from the LIDAR map and seeing that near the point, on the ICC map, the place name la Grallera is referenced.

On 21-6-2026, together with JC. Juderias and J. Perera, they locate and visit the cavity.

Certainly known since ancient times by the people of the area and, moreover, being in a zone defended by republican troops from May 1938, the cavity must have been used by the soldiers together with the trenches as a shelter, since inside it many very rusty food cans are found.

It had never been catalogued, but in the work on Boumort (Senent i Victoria, 1965) published in the magazine Montaña no. 100, of the Centre Excursionista de Catalunya, among the cavities mentioned but never explored, the citation of the Forat del Bosc de Baiarri appears. Could it be this one? Possibly we will never know.
