Forat Tx-2

Estreta esquerda d'uns 60 m. de desnivell vora la font del Teix (la Sénia, Montsià)

Sénia, La • Montsià80m60m

TX-1 fissure, with a drop of about 60 m, near the font del Teix (la Sénia, Montsià). Discovered and explored in 1994 by the Espeleo Club Tortosa.

Characteristics

Location

Going along the track from Caro to the font del Teix, once past it, the track begins to climb and when it makes a bend to the left of almost 180º, right above on the left, beside a hill, is the TX-1 fissure. Continuing further S, at the foot of a cliff is the TX-2.

Other uncatalogued cavities:

  • TX-3: Right beside the TX-2. A very narrow fissure that has only been sounded for some 35-45 metres. It is also known as la Diaclasa Supermaldita.
  • TX-4: Also known as Forat del Camí. Located on the left side of the track that climbs from the font del Teix towards Fredes. UTM ED50 coordinates: x: 266325; y: 4516581; z: 887 m. It is a pit blocked by boulders and where it seems someone has currently made some attempt at clearing.

Description

Morphology

Consists of a narrow joint that descends some 40 metres of drop. At the height of the access mouth, the joint still rises some 20 metres more, presenting two openings to the exterior, although the passage between this upper sector and the lower one seems unviable due to the narrowness. The speleometric data are approximate. The 60 metre drop is obtained from the level – 40 and the upper zone + 20.

Progression

The descent was done by the opposition technique (ramonage) due to the narrowness of the fissure, which ends at a point that becomes impenetrable. It should be borne in mind that the joint winds like a meander and one must keep shifting at every metre searching for the widest point to pass. At the bottom the passage is so narrow that the explorer cannot change position and must begin the ascent in the same posture. The two members of the EC Tortosa who made the first and only exploration had serious problems returning to the exterior, despite the marks they had left during the descent. The continuous changes along the fissure made them lose their orientation and they ended up at points with no exit. Despite moments of faintness and anguish they were able to get out on their own feet, although they do not keep a good memory of this experience.

Other details

Among the companions from Tortosa, this cavity is also known as la Diaclasa Maldita.
