Sénia, La • Montsià270m62m

Cavity with 270 m of passage and 62 m of depth at el Port (la Sénia), discovered and explored by the Espeleo Club Tortosa in the first days of January 1983.

Characteristics

Location

On the left slope of the barranc de Millers, about 3 metres above the streambed. Access can be gained via the track that runs from el Mascar to Fredes (Castelló); once past the houses of Millars and having left behind the path that climbs towards Coll Roig (GR-8), the track begins to make a series of zigzags, from where one must look for the best access to descend to the barranc de Millers, where the cavity is located. Description

Morphology

Through a small entrance and a short corridor, one reaches a small drop that leads into a wide chamber with a high ceiling and a chimney almost at its central point. At its lowest part begins a downward-sloping conduit about 20 metres long that connects to another large room, also with a high ceiling; its floor, occupied by blocks on a steep slope, leads to the mouth of a pit of about 8 metres that leads to the lower level of the room. A narrow descending conduit leads to a small room, also with a rising ceiling, to continue descending gently and be intercepted by a small upper gallery accessed laterally, and continue until emerging into an elongated room, with a strong incline in the final stretch, penetrating into a zone of blocks, at the bottom of which the maximum depth point is reached (- 62).

History

Discovered and explored by members of the Espeleo Club Tortosa in the first days of January 1983.

During the search, near the cavity, they saw, painted on a rock, the inscription UF-2, which no one ever knew the meaning of, but which served to give the cavity its name.
