A cavity with a 13 m vertical drop in the municipality of Vilanova de Meià, with an entrance of 9 x 7 metres and a small -6 metre pitch.

Characteristics

Location

Follow the L-913 road that leaves Vilanova de Meià in the direction of Pas Nou and turn off to the left towards the hermitage of the Mare de Deu del Puig de Meià. Once we reach the turn-off for the track that goes to the hermitage, we will leave it to continue in the direction of the abandoned village of Rúbies. We will arrive at a point where we find on the right of the path a large water cistern in the middle of a climb; at the end of this climb of the path it becomes flat but on the left a track comes off that goes down, turns left and climbs again to head towards the remains of the hermitage of Sant Alís. At the end of the previous climb we find a path on the right that must be followed, this continues more or less along the ridge, until reaching a point where it descends and turns slightly to the right; at this point we find on the left of the path a small hillock on top of which is the entrance of the cavity.

History

This cavity was indicated in 1980 by Josep Portí “alies” Xaman, a resident of Vilanova de Meià, to Joan Pallarès and Francesc Rubinat, both members of GEFOMA; after three unsuccessful trips dedicated to the search they gave up. In the mid-90s a colleague from the UEC who was making a paragliding flight in the area commented to members of the SIE that he had seen a very large entrance, but that he did not know how to locate it. Rubinat, who belonged to the SIE at the time, again carried out the search without results, then decided to climb to the crest of the Montsec, specifically to the Graó Ample, provided with some binoculars, where at the first glance he already located the entrance of the cavity.
