Forat d'en Paré

Coveta de 7 m. de recorregut a Sant Llorenç Savall

Sant Llorenç Savall • Vallès Occidental7m0

A 7 m-long cave in Sant Llorenç Savall, with a well-defined entrance, a transverse gallery and a documented past since 1971.

Characteristics

Location

The route begins at the cemetery of Sant Llorenç Savall, where the signposted path towards the coll del Vinardell starts. In less than five minutes you enter fully into the forest burned in 2003, a fire corresponding to the blaze that started at two in the morning on 10 August on the Gallifa road. In a quarter of an hour you come almost up against the power line, the spot where the track that must be taken to the right begins. Pay no attention to the three signposted crosses (yellow, white and GR/PR). The path climbs gently, passing above a vineyard hut below the power line, crosses the torrent de la Vall de Maria and later places you on the slope of the torrent del forat d'en Paré. After two small bends the cavity is found, some 30 metres above the track, always before reaching the next power line. The route is easily covered in between 20 minutes and half an hour. Description

Morphology

Cavity totalling 7 m of passable passage. The most notable feature is the entrance mouth, very well defined and located 1.5 m above the ground. The mouth, with a one-metre section, gives access to a small transverse gallery of 4.5 metres where one can stand upright. On the left side, almost imperceptible, there is an impenetrable fissure that, in the form of a chimney, leads to the outside.

Speleothems

No reconstructive forms are visible.

Other details

Part of the walls appear blackened by the soot from fires having been lit inside.

History

Explored and surveyed by members of the SIS – CET in October 2003. The people of Sant Llorenç Savall have heard the name but few know where to place it, and visits do not seem to be frequent. Lluís Vergés i Solà mentions it in his book ‘Foranies i altres coses' (1971) and publishes a photograph of it. It cannot be ruled out, as the author says, that the forat d'en Paré had been a hermit's refuge in remote times; its solar orientation is unbeatable. What is already very improbable is that the cavity had been a refuge of the ETA members who committed the Hipercor attack, as has been heard said by someone from the village. What we do know for certain is that the cavity is the den of an owl. On the two maps consulted the erroneous toponym Perer or Pere appears.
