Characteristics

Location

From Castellterçol we will follow the BV-1245 road towards Granera; after kilometre 2 we will turn left onto the paved track towards Coll d'Ases and Gallifa. After covering about 7 kilometres we will reach Coll d'Ases, where on the right-hand side and right next to the traffic signs a path sets off, which we will follow until we find an iron pole where the path divides; we will keep left, which will take us to the base of the cliff where we will find some cairns. We will soon find the first of the caves a little more than 250 metres from Coll d'Ases; a few metres further on we will find the rock shelter and immediately afterwards the entrances of the cova Central. We continue onwards, where the cliff turns right and then immediately resumes the previous direction, and 22 metres from the last entrance of the cova Central we find the cova Petita; continuing 11 metres further on we find the cova Penjada about 3 metres above the ground, and continuing 10 metres onwards we will find the cova Oest.

Description

Morphology

The entrance appears divided by several blocks that have fallen from the ceiling. It has a main gallery that towards the end is crossed by another one that soon ends closed at both ends.

History

Located by members of the SIS del CE Terrassa after the fire of 2003, in November 2005 Jordi Guillemot surveyed them and named them “Complex de les Falgueres” after the place name that appears on a nearby hill and which on the Editorial Alpina map is georeferenced as Coll de les Falgueres, but on the current ICGC map this place name does not appear anywhere.

This group of cavities is known in hiking circles as Coves de Coll d'Ases; the Matagalls-Montserrat route even passes right below them.
