Espluga Nº9 dels Corrals de Gurp

Interessant balma a Gurp, (Tremp).

Tremp • Pallars Jussà10m0

Interesting rock shelter in Gurp (Tremp), 45 metres wide by 10 metres deep, with remains of a construction and spots where water accumulates.

Characteristics

Location

You have to go to the village of Gurp (Tremp), cross the village and before reaching the Raval you will find a large parking area. From here we will head back towards the cluster of houses; just as we arrive, on the right, a wide ascending path takes us up to the water tanks. Behind these begins the trail with yellow paint marks that climbs the cliff in zigzags some 75 metres in height. At one of the bends, you have to leave the path and follow a faint trail heading N, climbing about fifty metres towards a rock shelter where a construction can be seen.

We have classified the corrals from West to East, so this is the ninth corral in an E direction; it is located at the foot of the cliff on the slope above the village of Gurp. Given its location, it could be the corral known as cova d'en Peixeco.

Description

Morphology

It is a rock shelter 45 metres wide by 10 metres deep.

Hydrology

Remains of a construction that appears to be a cistern are preserved; even so, in other parts of the rock shelter there are also spots where water accumulates.

History

Known since time immemorial. Initially, before the construction of the village of Gurp, they were very probably used as dwellings; later they came to be used as corrals. In the 1860 census they already appear cited as corrals. Some of the names of the corrals are known, cova d'en Peixeco, cova d'en Genera or Geneva, cova d'en Muntaner, cova de la Roca, cova d'en Sisco Macià, but we have not been able to identify which corral each of the names corresponds to.
