Characteristics

Location

We will leave the village of Gurp, belonging to the municipality of Tremp, and go up its main street to the last houses; from there a path heads W toward the nearby cliffs. In about 300 m we will climb up to the level where the corrals are aligned; the entrance of the cova Genera will be visible, slightly suspended in the cliff, and very close to its right, corral no. 6. From the latter we must follow the base of the cliffs to its right, and pass along a discreet ledge behind the vegetation and keep climbing until reaching an esplanade from which the generous entrance of the cave is already visible. A few metres further down, toward the middle of the ledge route, is the discreet entrance of the cova inferior de l'Aigua.

Description

Morphology

Cave with a generously sized entrance, in which there are large collapse blocks. After passing these blocks along the sides, we reach an ascending corridor in which on both sides there are 2 platforms at a higher level. We will pass under a large block wedged between the platforms and finally reach the main chamber of the cave; from here, it will be easy to access the 2 upper platforms.

The N platform has a small access step and is practically flat, it has a chimney between blocks and ends in the innermost part in an impassable passage. The S platform has a ramp, and a small passage between formations that gives access to the more interior, low-ceilinged, decorated chamber of the cavity. This chamber only allows access lying down and gradually loses height until it ends filled with sediments.
