Els Cisternons

Petit avenc amb 31 metres de recorregut al Montgrí

Torroella de Montgrí • Baix Empordà31m6m

Small pit of 31 metres of passage in the Montgrí, with four entrances from East to West and known as Els Cisternons, point number 9 of the Ruta del Vent.

Characteristics

Location

It can be accessed both from l'Estartit and from l'Escala, bearing in mind that during the summer months vehicle access is prohibited. Nevertheless, probably the most suitable access is via Sobrestany and la Torre Ferrana; from there we will follow the road of the Muntanya Gran (despite the name it is a track). Past the viewpoint of the Roc Ferran a long straight begins; we will find a track on the right (ETRS89 coordinates 513896 – 4658458) which we will follow for 580 metres, where we will find panel no. 9 of the Ruta del Vent; Els Cisternons are a few metres to the right of the track.

Description

Morphology

The cavity presents four entrances from East to West separated by a few metres from each other. Through the easternmost one, access is easy via a 4-metre drop and places us in a slightly ascending level; at the highest part it coincides with the second entrance, for which we would need the help of a rope. The joint continues descending, but too narrow to pass through; one must exit to the outside and enter either through the next entrance, where a rope is needed, or through the narrow entrance situated further to the W, in this case a drop of less than 2 metres places us in a descending gallery, which at its lowest point reaches -6.40 metres; the gallery climbs back up until it places us at the other end of the aforementioned narrow joint.

Progression

Through the easternmost entrance, access is easy via a 4-metre drop. The second entrance requires the help of a rope. The next entrance also requires a rope. Through the narrow entrance situated further to the W, a drop of less than 2 metres gives access to a descending gallery.

History

Els Cisternons has been known for a long time; it is a fairly visited place since it corresponds to point number 9 -Els Cisternons- of the Ruta del Vent.
