Small vertical spring in Castellbell i el Vilar

Characteristics

Location

From the C-55 road at the height of Castellbell i El Vilar, we will turn off onto the BV-1123 road towards Marganell; at kilometre 4.7 we will turn left onto the BV-1122 road; after kilometre 2, at the height of the Sant Cristòfol cemetery, we will turn left onto carrer del Mas Enric; on reaching the first crossroads we will continue left, and at the next crossroads we will continue right along carrer del Cau until the end. It will be necessary to go down to the bed of the Rasot del Colomer (ICGC) and follow it downstream for about twenty metres, where we will find the mouth of El Brogit on the right of the stream. Another access is via the road from Monistrol to the monastery of Montserrat; a few metres after passing the revolt de la paella, a small local road (BV-122) leaves on the right which, passing by the mas de la Calsina, reaches the cemetery and the church of Sant Cristòfol; from there the previous directions must be followed.

Description

Morphology

A small shaft about 4 metres deep, very often flooded. At some times it can be found dry, but at the bottom of the shaft there is a very narrow and normally flooded crawlway. It is known that this passage was once passed, giving access to a narrow gallery about 15 metres long which leads to a blind shaft, followed by a very narrow fissure.

History

Known in the area since time immemorial. The first speleological report is a note that appeared in 1965 in Geo y Bio Karst and was made by members of EDES – CECB (Manresa). In 1980 a group from Castellbell i el Vilar made known in a newly launched local publication named El Brogit a detailed description of the explorations carried out, which reached a point that has never been accessible again. Around 1989 members of the EC de Gràcia became interested in this small phenomenon and made a detailed study of its functioning and evolution.
