Tiny little cave about 4 m long in Pontons, with a single small chamber, a possible shepherd's shelter and a pottery fragment that could be from the Bronze Age.

Location

Located at the church of Santa Magdalena, on the outskirts of Pontons. We will follow the track that passes along the west side of the cemetery; we will soon find a farmhouse on the left and then we will turn off to the left. You must follow the track that runs parallel to the riera dels Carbons until reaching les Roques Grans. After covering 1.37 kilometres from the church of Santa Magdalena, we will leave the track on the right and must climb up a scree slope towards the base of a small cliff where the cavity is found, located about 47 metres from the track.

Description

Morphology

Tiny cavity formed by a single small chamber about 4 metres long and 4 wide.

Other details

It seems that it had been used by shepherds as a shelter. Some stones like steps and the blackened ceiling suggest this use. A small pottery fragment was found that could be from the Bronze Age.

History

Known since remote times by the people of the area. The only data known are those given by members of SIRE – UEC Sants who visited it in August 1979.
