Characteristics

Location

Beside the Information Centre of the Natural Park at Coll d'Estenalles (the road from Terrassa to Mura), a service track of the Park leads up towards Coll d'Eres. From this point you must follow the path (all well signposted) that goes into the Canal de Llor and brings you to the foot of most of the cavities in the area. The cova Simanya Petita is the second one encountered in the system of the coves de la Simanya, some 20 metres beyond the Cova del Triangle.

Description

Morphology

A 3 by 6 metre entrance followed by a wide gallery oriented N35O. After 14 metres, in the E wall a narrow passage opens through which one reaches a knot of conduits, all of short length, the most interesting of which extends in a NE direction. Once this wetter stretch is passed, the gallery suddenly changes orientation by 120º (at this angle of the gallery one is very close to the end of one of the side galleries of the Cova Simanya, although the possible clearing seems to present quite a few difficulties) and ends after a few metres. This final stretch presents a multipartition of the conduit that strongly recalls some forms of phreatic origin, with the logical differences given the excavated material. Its drop is about 10 metres positive from the lower level of the entrance mouth.

Speleothems

The most interesting conduit extends in a NE direction through an area with abundant concretion (gours, flows,...).

Hydrology

The most interesting conduit extends in a NE direction through an area with abundant concretion and at times half flooded.

History

Its proximity to the Cova Simanya makes it go more unnoticed, but it is also known since time immemorial and visits from 1878 are recorded.

Only its first 14 metres of the entrance gallery were known until, around 1966, members of the SES of the Centre Excursionista de Sabadell cleared a narrow passage that led them to explore the rest of the cavity.
