Description

Morphology

A vertically elongated entrance, half obstructed by slabs detached from the walls, through which one enters a short, straight gallery that narrows until it becomes impassable. A few metres from the end, through a low passage, a side gallery is reached, likewise formed along a joint, with a much smaller cross-section than the previous one. After 16 metres of passage it is completely blocked. The total passage is 38 m.

Progression

From Cova Simanya you must follow the path and about a hundred metres further on there is a gully that you must climb up. About ten metres above the path, in the middle of the gully, is the entrance of the cavity.

Other details

As in most of the cavities in this sector, the floor is covered by sediments.

History

It seems that the cave was discovered around 1961, but we do not know by which group or people.

We note a curiosity, which is that the oldest survey we know of is due to Josep Castell, who made it on 23 May 1962, being at that time a member of the ERE – CEC, and he himself acknowledges that the cave was known as Cova Simanya Nova, but he renamed it Cova del Torrent. We have evidence that the first visit of the GES – CMB was not carried out until January 1964, when they made a new survey, drawn by our friend Òscar Andrés, but in which Josep Castell also took part (at that time and circumstantially he was with the GES; later he returned to the ERE) and which was published in the Sant Llorenç catalogue (1974) as Cova Simanya Nova or de la Canal (all of this in Castell's usual vein, may he rest in peace).
