Cova Lolita

Cova de 42 metres de recorregut a Tivissa.

Tivissa • Ribera d'Ebre42m10m

A 42-metre-long cave in Tivissa, with difficult access, located and explored by SIRE-Cornellà in 1965-66.

Characteristics

Location

Access is difficult, since the track that leaves Tivissa and follows the camí de la Llena, shortly before reaching the mas de la Devesa, is closed by a padlock, along with signs prohibiting passage, both for vehicles and for people.

From behind the mas de la Devesa, a path sets out that crosses a ravine and heads to the mas d'en Benito. From this mas one must climb across fields and old terraces to the serra Segrentana, which runs perpendicular to the serra de la Creu. Past the col that separates the serra Segrentana from the group of the serra de la Creu, one must follow a small cliff face located on the right. The cave is clearly visible from the foot of this cliff face.

Approximate coordinates based on a 1952 map at a scale of 1:50,000, without much reliability.

Description

Morphology

A wide entrance leads into the vestibule of the cavity. About 9.50 metres from the entrance, on the N side, we find a narrow passage that places us in a gallery about 9 metres long, at the end of which opens a small inclined shaft that drops into the upper part of a chamber; this chamber is divided into two distinct levels by a group of blocks of clastic origin. Some narrow holes located at the bottom of the chamber allow us to reach a narrow gallery situated on a lower level, this being the deepest point of penetration at present. The total length is 42.20 metres and the vertical drop is -10.45 metres.

History

Located and explored by members of SIRE-Cornellà during the course of the three campaigns carried out during the years 1965-66. In 1982 they return again together with the GERP de Sant Just Desvern.
