Description
Morphology
An entrance of good dimensions (4.5 x 5 m.) gives access to a chamber that maintains these measurements and that extends for 15 metres, increasing them slightly in the terminal zone. In its central zone, a slight narrowing has allowed the installation of a door that keeps the cavity closed.
At the end of the entrance gallery and on a lower level, a new gallery begins, of more reduced dimensions.
Speleothems
The gallery continues a little further and then climbs up through a set of upper conduits, of scanty dimensions, although beautifully decorated by lithogenesis, with a whole series of eccentric forms standing out.
Hydrology
Shortly after entering the new gallery, on the left, there is a shaft flooded with fresh water, corresponding to the water table of the area and which is surely the same as that found in the cova del Centenari and in the avenc de les Granotes.
Progression
A stone staircase allows descending the 3 metres of drop to the new gallery. The gallery continues a little further and then climbs up through a set of upper conduits.
History
Known since ancient times, a document of 1163 from King Alfons I already mentions the spelunca cremata. It appears cited in all the old speleological catalogues and everything indicates that for a long time there was a stone wall that served to use it as a dwelling or as a fortification.
On 15 September 1910 it is visited by Faura, Rosals and Llongueres. Faura says textually: Es un mal abrigo, habitado por pobres errantes. En el fondo hay una muy reducida sala. Carece de interés científico.
In fact it went unnoticed until, when the area was urbanised, the owner of the plot where it is located began to excavate (1963) the sediments at the bottom of the entrance gallery until finding the continuation and began to fix up its interior, with an initial idea of installing a discotheque, which he soon gave up. The owner, Mr. Navarro (Transports Navarro, of Sants) gave notice to members of the SIRE – UEC Sants who visited and surveyed it (the survey was lost) in January 1967. Subsequently, during the work of preparing the speleological catalogue of the Garraf, Joan Borràs and colleagues from the GES – CMB surveyed it again (May 1974) and call it Cova Fumada de Vallbona.
