Characteristics

Location

A group of 10 small cavities at the Fondo de Vallbona (Garraf).

From the Rat-penat urbanisation you must go to find the final stretch of the Fondo de Vallbona and begin to go up it through the very middle of the streambed. Shortly before finding the old and lost path that skirts above some stone margins on the left slope of the ravine (on the right of the route), the Cova del Fondo is found on the left. Following the ravine a hundred metres further, you must go up the right slope (left of the route) some 40 metres until reaching a rock shelter at the foot of a cliff on the eastern slope of the Pic (or Puig) del Martell.

Description

Morphology

It is a group of 10 small cavities apparently independent, opened at the foot of some cliffs between 148 and 162 metres above sea level. The one situated furthest S is the one that reaches a length of 13 metres, being the most developed of the group.

Two of these overlapping cavities cross the rock from N to S. Most of the cavities are affected by an important clastic process.

History

Discovered and explored by members of the SES – CE Puigmal at the end of the 1950's.
