Characteristics

Location

Beside the walls of the Puig del Martell, at the exit of some climbing routes, about 30 m from some margallons.

With these data it has been impossible for us to locate the cavity and the coordinates (Madrid meridian) provided by the authors of the record are totally erroneous. Therefore, the coordinates we give are of very low reliability and can only serve to give an orientation of where the cavity may be found, although we have the doubt whether it is on the E slope or the S slope of the Puig del Martell.

If anyone has knowledge of the cavity, we would be grateful if they could pass on information to us.

Toponymy note: We have decided to change the name of the pit, which was originally published as del Pic del Martell, to that of Puig del Martell. It should be said that on the cartography it has always appeared as Pic, but the Parc Natural del Garraf, with good judgement, has decided to use the toponym Puig, which we also believe is the most appropriate (see photo). Of course, on the cartography, the upper area of this sector is called Pla de les Basses Roges, a totally alien name that has never been used. They also reference a pool painted in blue, we imagine of water, when it is simply the visible doline, known by the old shepherds of the Garraf as the Camp Rodó or Camprodó (to differentiate it from the Campgràs).

Description

Morphology

The entrance, 30 x 80 cm, gives way to a 10 m shaft of jointed form with the bottom occupied by blocks, which, at the N end of the shaft, leave a way to a descending ramp that places us below the base of the shaft. In the lower part, a passage of tight dimensions leads to the deepest point of the cavity: -16.5 m.

NNE-SSW joint filled by blocks that give rise to the different parts of the cavity.
