A 47 m deep pit in Sitges, located on 5 February 1992 by the Espeleo Grup de la UM Eramprunyà (Gavà).

Characteristics

Location

From the northernmost point of the El Poal urbanisation (c/ Gómez de la Serna), a wide path heads SW and climbs to a ridge where some high-voltage towers are visible. Once here, you must climb it in a NNE direction until reaching a rocky spur, which must be overcome, and in a gully that descends towards the torrent d'Aigua Pura the cavity is found.

The approach can also be made from the end of carrer Eramprunyà in the neighbouring urbanisation of Cova Fumada (Sitges).

Description

Morphology

A small entrance leads to a very narrow 3 metre pit. A slight slope leads to a 17 centimetre crawl and once past it you reach a small chamber from which a 6 metre pit descends to another heavily concretioned small chamber. A 14 metre pit follows and then another of 15. At its bottom, through a passage between concretions, you can reach a side chamber, high and narrow, beautifully ornamented. In the final section you can access a lower small chamber that marks the point of maximum depth.

History

Located on 5 February 1992 by members of the Espeleo Grup de la UM Eramprunyà (Gavà) while practising ladder climbing on the nearby walls of the El Poal area (Castelldefels). The small original hole had to be cleared and in the following days the full exploration was carried out.
