Cova Egara

Petita cova de poc més de 12 m. de recorregut a Sant Llorenç del Munt

Matadepera • Vallès Occidental12m0

Small cave just over 12 m long in Sant Llorenç del Munt, between the Pla de Ginebrons and the Serrat Roig.

Characteristics

Location

Between the Pla de Ginebrons and the Serrat Roig, at the top of a steep little gully that leads to a monolith, on the cliff that overlooks the Canal del Bosc.

Coordinates with not the slightest bit of reliability that can only give an idea of the area where the cave is located. This is one of the “secret” caves of Sant Llorenç del Munt, and some of the few who know it do not want to reveal its exact location, and those who made the first and only description forty years ago possibly would not remember the exact spot either.

Description

Morphology

The entrance appears as a tall, narrow joint, guarded on both sides by two trunks of a large shrub that seems as if it wanted to take over the cavity. Shortly after entering, one must pass through a narrow, crawling section that, once overcome, leads to a small chamber where the height increases considerably and reaches 7.5 metres. At the end of the cave there is another small chamber. The total length of the gallery is 12.4 metres.

Speleothems

At the end of the cave there is another small chamber where the lithogenic process is very intense.

Progression

Shortly after entering, one must pass through a narrow, crawling section that, once overcome, leads to a small chamber where the height increases considerably and reaches 7.5 metres.

History

Discovered by Mr. Domènec Bellot and explored on 29 September 1957, as can be read in an inscription that is (or was in 1973) at the entrance of the cave. Members of the SIS del CET visited and surveyed it in early March 1973. Needless to say, it is a cave that has had very few visits.
