Cova Dos Forats

Petita cova de 18 m. de recorregut a Castellar del Vallès

Castellar del Vallès • Vallès Occidental18m3m

Small cave with 18 m of passage in Castellar del Vallès, with two entrances, an upper gallery of 7 m and a lower cave with a chamber and a chimney.

Characteristics

Location

We must reach the font del Carme and follow the track that climbs up the torrent. We will arrive at a flat area where two large holm oaks stand out. From this esplanade a path leaves to our right which, once the torrent has been crossed, continues horizontally for about 200 metres until it climbs a little. We must leave the path and continue horizontally along some abandoned terraces, for 50 metres, until we reach some holm oaks beside which the two entrances of the cavity are found.

Description

Morphology

The upper cave consists of a single gallery 7 metres long in a descending form; its width ranges between 0.5 and 1 metre, while the height does not exceed 2 metres. The cave ends up forming two levels that connect when the upper one ends.

We can access the lower cave by a 1 metre step that leads us to a chamber of 2.5 x 3 metres, where we find a large block of clastic origin that has caused different levels in the chamber; at the E end and below the block, a chimney can be followed that climbs 2 metres between stones and earth. If we go to the deepest end of the cave, which is in a S direction with respect to the entrance, we can also follow below the block and connect with the aforementioned chimney.

Hydrology

We are before a fossil cavity, which in the past had been a spring with two outlets. The erosion forms in both cavities are quite notable.

Both form part of the same group of springs, but at present they cannot be connected by any gallery.

Other details

In this part of the cavity some important vaults can be observed, formed by the erosion of water.

History

Discovered and explored by members of the SES Talps del Centre Excursionista del Vallès (Sabadell) around 1964.
