Cova dels Tres Cercles

Cova dels Tres Cercles

Ínfima coveta en granit a Montcabrer (Maresme)

Cabrera de Mar • Maresme4m1m

A tiny cavity in granite at Montcabrer (Maresme), 4 metres long, with a triangular entrance and a carving probably from the Bronze Age.

Characteristics

Location

We will head towards Cabrils along the BV-5022, at approximately around kilometre 3 we will turn right and go up through the Can Tolrà urbanisation, heading NE, to pick up the path that leads to the Font Picant and the castle of Burriac.

As soon as we leave the last street of the urbanisation we come to a small col where we will leave the car and go up along a marked path in the direction of the turó de l'Infern, a place known for being where the wrongdoers of the area were hanged on the gallows. We will leave this spot on our left and continue towards some antennas to finally reach the summit of Montcabrer, an excellent viewpoint over the Maresme and Barcelonès Nord. From here we will descend with a little difficulty, to the left of the frightening iron cross, to reach about twenty metres lower down the cova de les Tres Cercles located among the large granite blocks.

Description

Morphology

Small cave with a passage of only 4 metres, the entrance is triangular, 1.30 metres high by 2.40 wide, formed at the expense of two granite blocks. The floor is made up of sauló and small branches.

The only gallery is slightly descending, ending in a small hollow 1 metre deep.

Other details

On the right-hand part of the cavity, on the floor, we can observe an interesting carving, probably from the Bronze Age, which gives the cave its name.

History

After reading some local monographs, members of the GE Badalona located it in the Montcabrer area and visited and surveyed it in November 2013.
