Cova del Pontet

The cave opens its two mouths on both sides of the track, which it completely crosses. It consists of a single gallery 11 metres long, with little slope, and an average height close to 2 metres, the width being variable. The floor shows alternations of still firm saulons (though quite degraded) and sand resulting from their weathering.

The cavity was originated by the action of a surface torrent that cuts into the terrain until it penetrates underground in a place where the lower saulons, less resistant and more fractured than those found above them, have been easily attacked. On the other side, the gorge continues with larger proportions, until it becomes an ordinary epigean torrent. In the case of more or less intense rains, the cavity still channels a certain volume of water.

It seems that due to the recent heavy rains (2016) these have caused the conduit that formed the cavity to have become completely filled by sediments.
