Cova del Racó del Ninyo

Cova del Racó del Ninyo

Petita cova al barranc del Moltó (Alcanar)

Alcanar • Montsià10m0

A small cave in the barranc del Moltó (Alcanar), with a triangular hole one and a half metres above the ground that leads into a small, roomy chamber.

Characteristics

Location

On the left slope of the barranc del Moltó, almost at its head, in the municipality of Alcanar. To get there, set out from the Urbanització Camp de Tir, west of the cement factory. Take a straight path towards the mountain range, passing a chain; at the end of the straight stretch the path turns left and at that same bend we can see the remains of an old lime kiln, collapsed and full of rubbish. The path becomes a footpath and climbs southwards to a small col where we find a utility pole and a signposted junction. To the right we climb up towards the Moleta. From here you must continue to the head of the barranc del Moltó, where the remains of the corralissa del Ninyo are, and then, with no footpath, go down along the barranc, where on its left slope, on a cliff of about 4 m, the cave is found.

Other details

In other times the small chamber must have given shelter to the shepherds and farmers of the area.

History

Known since remote times. It does not appear in any speleological inventory.
