Characteristics

Location

Near Km 7 of the BV-2128 road in the municipality of Castellví de la Marca, there is the neighbourhood of les Cases Noves de la Riera, beside the bridge over the Riera de Marmellar. We will take the dirt track parallel to the stream, and once we have crossed it, we will continue along the left-hand track to cross the stream a second time and go up the Fondo del Castany for about 800 metres, shortly before the confluence of the streams.

The cave is on the left hydrographic slope of the Fondo, about 140 metres from the track and about 60 metres of elevation above the Fondo itself, at the base of a small rise.

Description

Morphology

Access to the cave is through a wide but low entrance, about 4×0.45 metres. The entrance communicates directly with the main chamber, ascending and with a low ceiling; as we go up the chamber, it gains in height and volume until it ends at the highest point in a low crawlway and terminal blocks.

History

Known since ancient times.
