History

Explored in 1981 by the GELL, at first they believed it to be the cova Fonda de Tragó, and it was erroneously published as such in the book “el Montsec i Muntanyes veïnes”. Later, they contacted a former inhabitant of Tragó de Noguera who informed them of the correct name of the various cavities in the sector. These appear published with the corresponding rectification in the magazine Grallera no. 2, where this cave is given the name cova del Mont de Ví, a toponym corresponding to the mountain range of the same name and probably incorrect, due to the deficient translations of toponyms made by the IGN in the maps published in the decade of the 50s of the last century. The official gazetteer of toponymy of Catalonia cites it as serra de Montdeví.

When the GELL published the speleological catalogue of the Noguera in 1995, they went on to call it cova del Magrí, a name they already cited in one of the caves presented as unpublished in 1984, in the book “El Montsec i muntanyes veïnes”, but at that time without specifying data about the cavity. We suppose that, given the dimensions of the entrance, it was one of the various caves known to the local people.
