Description
Morphology
Wide rock shelter: 35 metres wide by 5 high and 14 metres deep from the overhang to the deepest point of the concavity. It has walls built with dry stone that form various divisions and two levels.
Other details
Everything seems to suggest an old livestock farmstead that later became simply a sheepfold.
History
Known since time immemorial. Josep Lladonosa, a historian from Lleida, had indicated the possible existence of a Visigothic monastery in the surrounding area; if so, the Cova del Coll de Mònecs could have been connected with this monastery and, at the very least, it should be related to the refuges of anchorites that were quite abundant and traditional in the district.
