Cova del Castell de Palmerola

Cova del Castell de Palmerola

Cova de 118 metres de recorregut a Palmerola, (Les Llosses).

Llosses, Les • Ripollès118m30m

A cave with 118 metres of passage in Palmerola, Les Llosses. First explored on 21 February 1993 by the GERS of the AE Muntanya.

Characteristics

Location

Along the C-26 road from Ripoll to Borredà, 6 kilometres before reaching the latter village and specifically at kilometre 172.1, we will find, on a sharp bend in the road, a track in very poor condition that climbs towards Palmerola up to some meadows on a pretty col located a little to the N of the Castell. This same point can be reached by a track in better condition; this leaves the same C-26 road from kilometre point 170.85, level with the Maçaneta farmhouse. We must take the Casons path and we will come out at the same col mentioned above. From this col, and above the first track mentioned, a track sets off heading east and we will follow it for 500 metres, where a cairn marks the start of a path that leads to the cavity, located at the foot of a small rise.

Description

Morphology

The entrance, a short slope, communicates with a small chamber which, through a low passage between blocks, allows us to reach a gallery 3 to 7 metres wide, with a flat roof, which descends following the dip of the strata. The floor is full of fallen blocks and slabs, until they block the continuation of the gallery at -14 metres.

Progression

We can cross this chaos of blocks in two places. On the right, to the E, we will find a passage between the debris that will lead us to a conduit of more modest dimensions and quite muddy that ends at -30 metres of depth, becoming impenetrable. If we continue on the left, to the W, we can climb up the blocks until we reach a small round chamber, we will climb down a 3-metre rise and among the debris we will find the previous conduit.

History

The first exploration of which there is any record was carried out on 21 February 1993 by the GERS of the AE Muntanya.
