Location

Following the C-26 road from Ripoll towards Berga, on reaching km 174.626 we pass through l'Hostalet, where on the left a cemented track emerges that follows the course of the Riera de Merlès towards the Cobert de Puigcerós and the campsite. After travelling about 2.4 km from l'Hostalet, we will park about 300 metres before reaching the Cobert de Puigcercós (UTM-ETRS89 coordinates 421410-4665112). Here a small path can be made out with a short descent and heading to the left until the foot of a wall, which is where the Bauma is, which cannot be seen until a barrier of blocks in front of it is passed.

Description

Morphology

Bauma formed from a currently dry meander of the Riera de Merlès; its bed is currently displaced a few metres further down. The mouth is elongated in shape, 10 metres wide by 1.5 metres high, beginning a gallery descending with stones and a drop of 2.5 metres, at the end forming a kind of flat room of earth.

History

Known forever by the people of the area. The Bauma was deeper, but in 2020 part of the upper lip collapsed, although the access has not been covered; until you cross the rocks that formed the visor and the vegetation that has grown over it, the entrance cannot be seen. In March 2025, Nil Hosta Ferrer, familiar with the cavity, accompanied Juli Serrano and Montse Roca (SIE-CEA) to carry out the cataloguing tasks.
