Cova del Boixar

Cova del Boixar

Petita cova habilitada com a “refugi” d'escaladors a el Bruc (Montserrat)

Bruc, El • Anoia35m5m

Small cave in el Bruc (Montserrat) fitted out as a climbers' shelter, with cooking utensils and beds for overnight stays.

Characteristics

Location

Located in el Bruc, we take carrer de les Escoles, which immediately crosses the torrent de l'Illa and then climbs up to carrer de la Parròquia. Here we head to the left and continue straight on and, after covering 550 metres, we turn right to the masia del Castell (here the car must be left) and continue until we reach a very stony olive grove. Here we leave the track that curves to the right and cross the olive grove straight ahead, by the best route we can, heading for a small path at its far end. Once on the path we follow it, without losing it, to a fork where there is a small pool. We continue to the right and the way leads us directly to the cave.

Description

Morphology

It is a cave that has been fitted out as a shelter by climbers. It has an entrance 28 metres wide, divided into two parts by a large block. The smaller part, the one situated to the East, is blocked after a few metres by a row of deliberately placed blocks. The West sector is separated from the East by a small step. Between this step and the block that divides the entrance, we enter a lower chamber, with a flat floor at its start, but further on it is occupied by blocks. Continuing straight on, the cave divides into two galleries: one on the right that ends after 7 metres, and the one on the left, 13 metres long, which ends at the highest part of the cave, at elevation +5. Blocks predominate throughout this sector.

Other details

Inside we can find all kinds of cooking utensils and beds for overnight stays. At present, the remodelling by climbers of part of the rock shelter offers a good room for 4-5 people.

History

Known since time immemorial. Old construction remains echo the importance of the dwelling used many years ago. Mentioned in hiking maps for years, without having received any interest on the part of speleologists. Members of the EC Gràcia visit it in November 2015 and carry out the corresponding cataloguing work.
