Llosses, Les • Ripollès32m2m

Small cave with 32 m of passage at Les Lloses (Ripollès), NW of Sant Martí de Vinyoles, known to local people and catalogued speleologically on 24 September 2016.

Characteristics

Location

It is located NW of Sant Martí de Vinyoles, which belongs to the municipality of Les Lloses. Next to Sant Martí de Vinyoles, where we will leave the car, is the masia de Portavella, past which runs the GR-1 trail, which we will follow uphill. On reaching a track we will follow it westward. When it forks, we will take the left branch and a few tens of metres further on we will see the cave entrance, a few metres to the right of the track. From Portavella to the cave, a little more than 10 minutes.

Description

Morphology

The entrance - square, 1.2 x 1.2 metres - gives way to a short earth ramp that continues into a straight gallery with a section taller than it is wide. The gallery makes a double bayonet bend and continues with even more comfortable dimensions for some metres (the height is on the order of 4.5 metres). After passing a narrowing between flowstone, we reach the final stretch, a tall but narrow gallery of 5.5 metres. Total passage, 32 m.

History

Known to local people, it had never been catalogued speleologically.

On 24 September 2016 members of the EC Gràcia and GE Badalona visited it and carried out the cataloguing work. On the ICGC map the word 'la Mina' appears, for which reason it was thought to be an artificial cavity, but they confirmed that it is a natural cavity, although it is possible that the entrance has been artificially widened to make access more comfortable.

Espeleoindex note: Everything suggests that it is the same cavity that M. Ubach and O. Escolà visited on 28-2-1971 and named Cova de Can Portabella, of which there is only a brief mention in a biospeleological work.
