Cova de Rocabruna

Cova de 25 metres de recorregut a Santa Maria d'Oló

Santa Maria d'Oló • Moianès25m0

A 25-metre-long cave in Santa Maria d'Oló, developed in sandstone, with two chambers and water infiltration.

Characteristics

Location

On the C-59 road, between the C-25 road and the town of l'Estany. At kilometre 51.5 we find the access to the Rocabruna estate. The cave is located to the SW of the Rocabruna house-castle and about 5 minutes from the spring and the pond that lies between the house and the road. The estate is privately owned and is surrounded by a wire fence; we do not know whether the cavity lies inside or outside this fence.

Until now it had been catalogued in the municipality of l'Estany, when it is actually in that of Santa Maria d'Oló.

Approximate coordinates to be reviewed.

Description

Morphology

The cavity has developed from the bedding joints of a block of sandstone. It consists of two small chambers; in the first we find the floor covered with clastic products, from ceiling collapses, while in the second chamber the floor is sandy, and has been excavated to extract sand.

Hydrology

In the second chamber we find an abundant infiltration of water.

History

Located and explored by members of SIRE-UEC on the first of May 1970, they returned on 30 August of the same year to survey it. We have no news that it has been located again. Some years ago, SIE-CEA searched for it without results.

It is possible that the cave lies within the property that belonged to Joan Gorina i Sans, and his descendants from 1919 until 1984, when the property was bought by Prince Saad Ben Abdula-ziz of Saudi Arabia; in 2002 the estate passed into the hands of the philosopher and former official of the Russian Parliament Sergei Oganesian and his partner, the Catalan businesswoman of Russian origin Olga Djanaeva, owner of the real estate company Royal Investment Company, the company that bought the estate. Later the estate passed into the hands of the Armenian businessman Arthur Hauritan; he, together with other members of the family clan, were arrested in September 2015 by the Mossos d'Esquadra for money laundering.

Bio

Àngel Lagar collected quite a lot of fauna inside it (30-8-1970), although they were mostly trogloxene and troglophile in character. He cites only one troglobite:

Isopods

  • Spelaeonethes occidentalis Vandel
