Cova de les Piquetes

Cova de les Piquetes

Petita cova de 8,5 m. al S de Collsuspina

Collsuspina • Moianès9m0

Small cave of 8.5 m in the S of Collsuspina, formed by a large fallen slab of rock, with abundant concretion and gours.

Characteristics

Location

To the S of Collsuspina and to the N of Roc Colomer. Located at the S end of the urban nucleus of Collsuspina, we will take the track in the direction of l'Espinoi. When we have walked about 350 metres, we will have to leave the track to continue cross-country on the left side, heading east. The point where we leave the track is shortly before reaching a large cultivated field. Shortly after we will reach a ridge and change slope. Just after changing, we will continue to the left, without a path and trying not to lose much altitude. We will pass beside some small rock shelters and shortly afterwards we will find the cavity in the middle of the forest. From the track to the cave, a little more than 5 minutes.

Description

Morphology

The entrance is vertical, slightly inclined and not very wide. It gives way to a gallery that is initially straight but with an inclined section that curves towards the end. The cavity has been formed by a large fallen slab of rock that rests with a strong inclination on the original terrain.

Speleothems

The left wall is heavily concretioned, as is the whole terminal sector, where we find different "piquetes" (diminutive of pica) or gours. The cavity takes its name from the presence of these "piquetes". The abundant concretion has sealed and cemented the contact spaces in a very effective way.

History

The only data we know about the cavity are those given by F. Cardona (EC Gràcia), J. Cuenca and F.X. Samarra (GE Badalona) who visited it in June 2015.
